U.S. Citizens

Passports need to be valid for 6 months after the final day of the program.  Please check the visiting countries for visa requirements.  There are no visas needed for Europe.  If a traveler is unable to obtain these travel documents, our standard cancellation policy will apply.

A La Carte Travel Booking Conditions

These Booking Conditions are valid for all A La Carte Travel departing after October 1, 2015, and are subject to change with or without notice. The most current Booking Conditions at the time of your departure will apply.

Enrollment

All Enrollment Forms must be received at A La Carte Travel 120 days prior to departure. Travelers should provide complete first, middle and last names and dates of birth as they appear (or will appear) on their passports.

 

Travelers who have not yet applied for a passport should provide their full name and date of birth as they appear on their birth certificate.

Rooming

 A La Carte Travel handles final rooming assignments for all travelers. Please ensure that all rooming requests are submitted by 110 days prior to departure.

Adults are placed in twin accommodations (a hotel room with two beds) with another adult of the same gender from the entire tour group unless the name of a roommate has been provided.

Single Supplement Price: $910

Adults can request double-bed accommodations (a room with one bed for two people)  or a single room for an additional fee per hotel. 

Lost belongings

A La Carte Travel is not responsible for loss of passports, airline tickets or other documents, or for loss of or damage to luggage or any other passenger belongings. In the case of a lost paper airline ticket, the traveler is solely responsible for meeting the airline’s requirements (both logistical and financial) for ticket replacement.

Food Allergies

 A La Carte Travel recognizes that some travelers may have severe food allergies. We will do our best to ensure that our suppliers are informed of the situation but we cannot guarantee that all requests will be accommodated. Travelers are responsible for making their own arrangements for all in-flight meals.

Deposit and Payments

A deposit of $500 is required at the time of registration to hold the space for the passengers.  The remainder of the balance is divided into equal monthly payments with the final payment due no later than 60 days prior to departure.

Baggage

Excess baggage is subject to extra fees.

Passengers are advised to find out about the fees on the airline’s website.

Cancellation

120 days or more prior to departure

Full refund less all non-refundable fees, and a $300 cancellation fee

45 days to 119  days prior to departure

Full refund less all non-refundable fees, $500 cancellation fee and 50% of the program price

Travel Insurance

A La Carte Travel automatically insures all the passengers in the Travelex Standard Choice plan.

The Standard Travel Protection Plan covers the following:

 

  • Emergency Medical and Dental Expenses up to $15,000

  • Emergency Evacuation & Repatriation Expenses of up to $50,000

  • Trip Delay Expenses of up to $1000

  • Lost or Delayed Baggage Expenses of up to $250

  • 24/7 travel assistance and concierge services

A  La  Carte Travel is now offering our groups a more comprehensive Travel Insurance as part of the Travel package and as part of an effort to ease the travelers’ concerns with the events around the world.

The travel protection plan we recommend, Travelex 360° Student Group Choice, includes coverage for Trip Cancellation and Interruption, Trip Delay, Emergency Medical Expense and Evacuation, Baggage Loss or Delay and more. 

 In addition to all of the above benefits, the Choice Plan upgrade will cover the following:

  • Trip Cancellation/interruption benefits include:  Sickness, injury, or death

  •  Pre-existing exclusion waiver through final payment

  • Common carrier cancellations/delays

  • Terrorist acts** (Occurring within 30 days of the scheduled departure date for the covered trip in your departure city or in a city which is a scheduled destination)

  • Trip delay benefits – 5 hours or more

  • Baggage Delay benefits – 12 hours or more

  • Cancel for any reason coverage upgrade

 

The  Cancel for Any Reason benefit, which allows you to cancel your trip for any reason, within 2 days of your Scheduled Departure Date, and receive up to 75% of the Insured Trip Cost. To be eligible for this benefit, the plan must be purchased within 21 days of your initial trip deposit and full trip cost must be insured. Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Friday September 4th, 2020- Depart 

Participants will fly from their home base to Lisbon (*Airfare not included*) 

 

Day 2: Saturday, September 5th, 2020- Lisbon 

This wonderful tour will begin after you check-in to your hotel in Lisbon. Meet your English-speaking tour escort at the hotel and spend the day exploring the beautiful city, the capital and largest in Portugal. Unwind in the evening sampling Portuguese cuisine on your own and spend overnight in Lisbon. 

 

Day 3: Sunday, September 6th, 2020- Lisbon

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before spending the day in a tour of Lisbon that includes food and wine tasting. This tour will include walking for approximately 1-hour with parts of it also on a private coach bus. The menu will include specialities such as codfish salty cake, sour cherry liqueur and cheese with marmalade! In the evening, explore the city and have dinner on your own before spending overnight in Lisbon. 

 

Day 4: Monday, September 7th, 2020- Lisbon 

After breakfast at the hotel, spend the day learning the art of azulejo, or Portuguese ceramic tile work in a tile-painting workshop and tour. In the evening, have dinner accompanied by a Fado Show, a very typical Portuguese musical genre traced back to 19th-century Lisbon! In the evening, spend overnight in Lisbon. 

 

Day 5: Tuesday, September 8th, 2020- Lisbon

Eat breakfast at the hotel then begin your day by taking a private coach bus to visit the city of Sintra, located on the Portuguese Riviera and famed for its picturesqueness and for its numerous historic palaces and castles. Enter into the Palacio da Pena, sitting on top of the hills of the Sintra Mountains. Look in the distance and see Lisbon from the top! On the way back, stop at Boca do Inferno (Portuguese for Hell’s Mouth!), the chasm located on the seaside clicks and famous for the vigorous seawater striking the rocky walls. Continue to the westernmost point of mainland Portugal and visit Cabo da Roca, famed for the lighthouse overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Upon arrival in Lisbon, spend the evening having dinner on your own before spending overnight in the city. 

 

Day 6: Wednesday, September 9th, 2020- Lisbon- Seville 

In the morning, eat breakfast at the hotel then take a private coach bus to Seville in Andalusia, Spain. Before arriving, stop for lunch at Torre de Palma and enjoy tapas, a main course, and delicious desserts accompanied with wine! Continue to Seville where you will check in to your hotel, then walk through Seville with your tour escort before dinner. In the evening, spend time exploring the city and eating dinner before spending overnight in Seville. 

Day 7: Thursday, September 10th, 2020- Seville

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then have a guided tour of Seville where you will visit famous landmarks in the city including the St. Mary of the See Cathedral, one of the largest of all medieval and Gothic cathedrals. Facing the cathedral, you will see the Alcázar, developed from a previous Moorish palace. After the tour, spend the afternoon sightseeing and souvenir shopping. Meet back with your group in the evening for a Flamenco show and tapas dinner! Spend overnight in Seville. 

 

Day 8: Friday, September 11th, 2020- Seville- Granada

Wake up to breakfast at the hotel, then begin your day by taking a private coach bus from Seville to Granada, a city known for grand examples of medieval architecture dating to the Moorish occupation. On the way, stop to visit an olive oil mill and enjoy a tasting of various olive oil selections. Continue on your way to Granada and upon arrival, check in to your hotel. In the evening, explore Granada on your own and have dinner, then spend overnight in the city. 

Day 9: Saturday, September 12th, 2020- Granada

In the morning after breakfast, continue your exploration of Granada with a guided visit of La Alhambra, the grand palace and fortress with both Christian and Muslim influences. Spend the greater part of the afternoon sightseeing and souvenir shopping. In the evening, enjoy a guided tapas tour in Granada where you can try items like patatas bravas, pan con tomate, and other delicious specialties. Spend overnight in Granada. 

 

Day 10: Sunday, September 13th, 2020- Granada- Toledo

After breakfast at the hotel, embark on your day’s journey with a private coach bus to Toledo, the “city of three cultures,” due to the medieval Arab, Jewish and Christian monuments in its walled old city. Arrive in Toledo and check-in at your hotel, then take a guided tour of Toledo where you will see and learn about Santo Tome Church, the historical church that was constructed on the site of an old mosque of the 11th century. Continue your tour at the Toledo Cathedral, one of the three High-Gothic cathedrals built in Spain in the 13th century. In the later afternoon and evening, have time to relax in Toledo before spending overnight in the city. 

 

Day 11: Monday, September 14th, 2020- Toledo- Madrid

Spend the morning after breakfast exploring Toledo on your own. After lunch, transfer with a private coach bus to Madrid, the capital of Spain, known for its manicured parks, expansive plazas, and rich repositories of European art. Check-in to the hotel and have time to explore the city on your own. In the evening, learn the art of making paella through a paella cooking class accompanied with dinner. Spend overnight in Madrid. 

 

Day 12: Tuesday, September 15th, 2020- Depart 

Enjoy a final breakfast at the hotel before taking individual transfers (not included) to the airport for your flight home
